Processing - Virgilio Conceria

Virgilio Conceria Artigiana is based on the production of 100% vegetable tanned leather, with the use of a tanning method called "Bath Tanning". This type of tanning consists in keeping the hides, during the tanning phase, for a longer period of time inside the drums making them turn slowly with a very light and slightly aggressive tannin bath.

The value of this tanning is certainly found in the touch and in the fact that the tannins are not concentrated in large quantities as in the typical vegetable concepts, they do not attack the skin and work it slowly. Another feature that cannot be ignored especially in the historical moment in which we are living is the low environmental impact it causes as the tanning bath (i.e. the tannins left together with water) is reused several times until it loses its characteristics after various uses. Tannins are powders that originate from trees that are normally found in nature, therefore they are not products that are chemically processed by man but come from the plant world and this also affects on the reduction of the environmental impact that this production produces. Our support leather for our production is composed exclusively of shoulders of European origin, choosing the best farms: French, Swiss and Norwegian. This very meticulous choice of raw material makes the selection of very high quality leather with a very low percentage of defects. Speaking instead of the processing phases: they are still carried out in an artisanal way as in the best twentieth-century Tuscan tradition (pressing, drying and fattening). All our items are enhanced by a very light aniline-based finish that guarantees unequivocal depth and naturalness.
